Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked brown rice
  • 1 pound fresh salmon fillet boneless, skin removed
  • 1 cup steamed chopped carrots
  • 2 whole carrots with tops
  • 4 cups water
  • cup dog-safe essential nutrient mix
  • ½ cup peas fresh or frozen

Equipment

  • Medium pot with lid
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Measuring cups
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Steamer or small pot for steaming vegetables

Method

  1. Prepare Ingredients:
  2. Rinse the brown rice under cold water until water runs clear. Chop the whole carrots, including the tops, into small pieces suitable for your dog’s size. Remove skin and bones from salmon, then cut into chunks.
  3. Cook Rice and Carrots:
  4. In a medium pot, combine rinsed brown rice, chopped carrots (with tops), and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 40 minutes, or until rice is tender and water is absorbed.
  5. Cook Salmon and Peas:
  6. While the rice cooks, steam the peas and the 1 cup of chopped carrots until tender. Poach the salmon chunks in a small amount of water or lightly steam until fully cooked and flaky, about 7-10 minutes.
  7. Combine and Mix:
  8. Once all components are cooked, combine the rice, carrots, peas, and salmon in a large mixing bowl. Add the dog essential nutrient mix and stir thoroughly to ensure even distribution.
  9. Cool and Serve:
  10. Let the mixture cool completely before serving to your dog. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for longer storage.
